Camping Cooking Supplies And Choosing Them Right

Camping is a sport that became popular in the early twentieth century. It is loved by people of every race, nationality, gender, and age. You can go out and rough it alone or with family and friends. There is almost nothing like the feeling of waking up in the morning to the sound of birds chirping, not honking horns. I would say the best part about camping though is the food! Cooking outdoors can be a great experience or downright awful one. You need a whole new set of camping cooking supplies instead of those used in your kitchen. Dutch ovens, aluminum foil, mess kits, cook sets, and charcoal all make up some possible things you might need.

Those supplies can include a ton of things, literally a ton! When you are trying to figure out the supplies you might need for cooking outdoors you have to think about a couple of things. And in my humble opinion the first question that I always ask myself or my group, is how much do we want to carry? If you can answer that correctly you will choose the correct supplies that are needed and you won’t be miserable!

How do you cook at camp? With some sort of heat source right? There are a few options to select for your choice of heat. Those options are campfire, charcoal, and gas/propane. There are a couple good things and a couple bad things with each option obviously but this is when your camping cooking supplies come into play. You wouldn’t want to use a Dutch oven when your heat source is propane right? Because the purpose of the Dutch oven is lost when you do that.

Another thing to consider when you are shopping around for your camping cooking supplies is how it is packed, especially if you fall into that backpacker group that I talked about earlier. Various companies over the years have poured tons of money into making the perfect item for you to carry around that is compact yet user friendly. There are some cookware sets out there that can fit into a small sack and can weigh only a couple pounds.

Utensils, untensils, utensils! What a novel idea! Something that helps you cook that infamous chili that everyone loves and craves. A great example of the common utensil is the wooden spoon. It will last for ages and ages, doesn’t transfer heat, and they are surprisingly difficult to break.

Bowls and Sporks that is what I use when I am camping. Actually only one of each, but you get the idea. I use one of those new squishy bowls to eat with, I can stuff it into the smallest nooks and crannies and don’t need to worry about a thing. A spork is an amazing invention, a spoon on one side of the handle and a fork on the other. AMAZING!

One thing that I can’t do without when I’m camping are smores! It’s like baseball to sports, it’s camping’s favorite pastime. Load up a marshmallow onto a skewer, load that guy on a chocolate bar, and then load everything onto a nice gram cracker. Telling jokes and sharing stories around the campfire is a great way to eat these lovely snacks.

When you finally do choose whichever camping cooking supplies, the final decision is yours and only yours. But this comes responsibility because you can choose something totally wrong and be miserable for the rest of your trip. Welcome to the stress-free world of camping outdoors!
