Big League Dreams

Two former big league baseball players had dreams. Big dreams which come alive at the Big League in the California desert resort city of Cathedral City just outside of Palm Springs.

The Odekirk brothers, Rick and Jeff wanted to share their passion and love for sports, in particular baseball, fast and slow pitch, by creating an environment that would give participants, for the most part regular people young and old, the opportunity to experience the big league feeling by creating environments that would give them that chance. In early 1998 they created the first of the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Cathedral City, California just outside of Palm Springs.

They weren’t the only ones with a dream. Kirk Walker, a softball coach at Oregon State, wondered why there were no world - class tournaments on the West Coast. Many of the West Coast teams were seeking a more convenient venue to play and half never went to the then existing big league tournament known as the “Lead-off Classic” in Columbus, Ohio. Walker began planning an inaugural event in 2001 and the first “Classic” was held in 2004. Walker was able to bring together the UCLA, Arizona and the US Olympic team to the first event and The Cathedral City Classic had been born. Big League Dream Parks like it have become immensely popular and construction has exploded throughout the United States.

Many have replica fields so one can play fast pitch or softball in replica stadiums like Ebbets Field, Forbes Field, Angel Stadium and others including some well know Polo Fields. Participants can experience the exciting experience playing and watching world - class athletics in a major stadium setting as they can in Cathedral City. The latest addition is a spectacular complex which recently opened in Las Vegas.

The Cathedral City complex has grown remarkably over the years and the stadium is regularly filled with spectators overflowing onto the field. As presently construed Cathedral City has five fields with replicas of Fenway, Yankee and Wrigley parks. In addition to these three fields there are two fields located at each end of the existing venue not to mention a 20,000 Square foot indoor soccer stadium and restaurant.

The venues are envisioned as multi-purpose use stadiums and feature everything from dog and auto shows to birthday celebrations and weddings and concerts. My first trip to the Cathedral City Park was to attend a sold out concert by Winona Ryder. My second field experience was attending the 2009 NCAA Womens College World Series Softball Tournament where I had the very special opportunity to see defending Champion Washington play talented Arizona. All of this with no maintenance cost to the community and the fields supporters.

Baseball, softball, soccer fans and all others are enthusiastically encouraged to visit the park and attend the Cathedral City Classic for world - class athletics on your next vacation to Palm Springs and the California desert resort cities.

Specifications On Motorhomes For Potential Buyers

In the 1920s, the first recorded motorhome was used. By the 1930s they were being manufactured by large companies but it was not until the 1950s that they became very popular. Motorhomes are now used by vacationing families to see the sites all around the world and by retirees who have saved all their lives just to buy one and travel the countryside. Depending on the size, it provides all the comforts of home.

There are a few choices when deciding what kind of motorhome to buy. They vary in size and accessories. Some will have more sleeping accommodations than others. These sleeping areas are called berths. These births are fixed into the sides of the interior. Some are compartments that can be folded down to allow another person to sleep comfortably, or folded up into a storage area.

They come with a kitchenette that supplies the necessary items to cook and clean, such as an oven and a sink. Luxury motorhomes come with an extensive kitchen area, complete with microwave, stove, sink, grill and oven. The size of the kitchen depends on the size of the actual motorhome.

A bathroom is similar to one that is found in a small apartment. It will contain a toilet that flushes, a shower and a basin. The more modern versions will have a separate cubicle for showering and a toilet that rotates into the interior of the vehicle to provide extra space in the bathroom area.

There are some of the larger vehicles that let the driver and passenger in the front cab turn and join the rest of the passengers in the back. Others will have a separate cab area that cannot be accessed by those in the back.

Smaller versions called campers are used by people who do not choose a large all in one vehicle. These small versions are attached to the bed of a truck or pulled behind on a trailer. They do not usually have bathroom spaces and have a much smaller living quarter area. They are preferred by people who do not mind stopping at restaurants and rest areas.

These recreational vehicles are a favorite among retirees and vacationing families. They can be purchased used or new. Features are being added to make motorhomes even more comfortable and fun to use. It is used by families to avoid the cost of high airfare tickets or hotel room costs. When you have it all in your vehicle, there is no need for any extra costs.

Class a Motorhomes are not that bad. You should look at the motorhomes and see what you think of them. Let us give you some more knowledge.

The Palm Springs Indian Canyons

In my last trip to Palm Springs, I spent an afternoon hiking the Palm Springs Indian Canyons. Located in Palm Springs, California the Palm Springs Indian Canyons consist of three trails to choose from: Palm Canyon, Andreas Canyon, and Murray Canyon. Each with an outdoor adventure for the active traveler.

The first and easiest is Murray Canyon. It is the easiest of the three to hike and is a simple trek from Andreas Canyon. Murray has both foot and equestrian trails that lead to the beautiful recreation areas that lay among thousands of palm trees. If you are lucky and keep your eyes open, you might just catch a glimpse of an endangered species, the Peninsula Big Horn Sheep. We saw mule deer and other wild animals that roam the high ground above the canyon. Murray Canyon is less visited and has a secluded beauty that must be seen to be appreciated.

Andreas Canyon has a half-mile lush radius with contrasting views of the magnificent fan palms and over 150 species of plants. It is the perfect place to bring your camera. Andreas provides scenic foot trails that lead through the canyon passing groves of skirted palms, unusual rock formations and the Andreas creek. It is a tranquil setting that is excellent for photography, bird watching, or just a quiet picnic at one of the many tables along the trail.

Palm Canyon is the last of three. Fifteen-miles long Palm Canyon has indigenous flora and fauna which are a breathtaking contrast to the stark rocky gorges and barren desert land beyond. It is equipped with a moderately graded, paved foot path that winds down into the canyon for picnicking near the stream, meditating under the sun, exploring the formations, hiking or horseback riding through the terrain. We found a trading post for hiking maps, refreshments, Indian art & artifacts, books, jewelry, pottery and conversational cultural lore.

The Palm Springs Indian Canyons are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. October thru July and then July thru September open on weekends only. Prices vary from adults, seniors and children.

The Palm Springs Indian Canyons are a perfect stop for the adventure traveler on your next Palm Springs vacation.

Children;s Overnight Summer Camp Choices

It is a great idea to consider letting your children attend Children’s Summer Camps . Kids’ summer camps everywhere have the people and facilities for teaching children everything from new skills to making art projects to lifelong principles like sharing and respect. Kids can learn, have fun, and gain new friendships by spending part of their summer at camp. Being a camper can be a good experience for children as young as seven or eight until well into the teen years. A lot of films are based on stories about summer camp adventures because so much universal coming of age happens to kids in these camps. Kids will also come to know more about nature because camps are usually located in the woods or near lakes or mountains.

Part of the fun of thisOvernight Summer Camps is that kids get to stay in an area all their own and sleep among other kids with adult counselors always present. It makes a young camper feel very grown up and it also brings a chance to learn independence. As a parent, it will be your responsibility to find the camp where your child can stay for right length of time during the summer. You can consider the following tips to keep in mind as you begin to look for the perfect overnight camp.

When it comes to choosing the right camp for your child, important camp information is needed and the right questions need to be asked. The best place to start is www.summercampadvice.com, a free website devoted entirely to helping parents and kids find the best summer camp for their particular needs. Acquiring that information takes time and patience, but the results can be priceless. Meanwhile, here are some basic areas of attention that you need to consider before you send your child off to summer camp.

Camps can either be general interest or specialty camps. Summer camps that fall into the general interest category offer a wide range of activities serving many interests. The choices might include swimming, horseback riding, indoor games, and arts and crafts classes. On the other hand, specialty camps focus on one area of interest. A specialty camp could be a sports camp that specializes in soccer or basketball, or it could be a camp that offers arts and crafts workshops. A well-rounded camp might be suitable for kids who most need to discover their interests and learn new skills while a specialty camp is perfect for older kids who are already passionate about something particular that they love to do.

You should also determine whether you want your child to go to a private or a non-profit summer camp. Private resident camps are more expensive but might offer new facilities and modern equipment. On the other hand, non-profit camps usually charge lower fees and can still offer properly maintained facilities and camp equipment. The heart of every camp is the staff, and nothing is more important to a camper’s experience. When selecting a camp, you have to consider budget, size, location, staff-to-camper ratio, length of stay and the condition of the camp facilities. There are perfectly good choices of summer camp for every budget, and they can be found with careful searching.

The grounds, facilities and equipment are much less important than the staffing choices, but they can offer clues about the attitudes of the camp’s directors. What is the condition of the cabins, bunks, bathrooms, kitchen, and mess hall? What about the equipment used for the activities? Is it properly maintained? Facilities and equipment that look a little rustic and worn can be perfectly acceptable as long as they are clean and still in good safe working condition. These questions can only be answered if you conduct a tour before making your final decision about which summer camp is best for your budding camper.

Swift Nature Camp is a Kids Summer Camps for girls and boys ages 6-15. We are a traditional camp with a science and nature focus. It is the perfect camp for the first timer.

Planning Your First Camping Trip

If, like many others, you have been camping with your parents but never on your own, there are a few points to remember when you first strike out on your first camping trip.

Make sure to check your tent and other equipment first, even though it may seem like too much effort for nothing. About a week before you leave for your trip, set up the tent. This way you know that you have all of the necessary parts to assemble the tent. Check for any holes or damage, especially in the floor and roof of the tent, and thats where water will come in if it rains.

Make sure you have a sleeping bag and pillow, and if you are taking an inflatable mattress, blow it up before packing it to make sure there is no air leaking from it. There is nothing worse than going to bed nice and comfortable and waking up a few hours later with a flat mattress and the hard ground beneath you. In case of a temperature drop at night, be sure to pack an extra blanket.

If you intend cooking at the campsite, remember that you need to take everything you will need to prepare a meal. Pack a crate for a fire to grill, 2 small pots, cutlery and anything else you can think of that you will use to cook. Starting a fire every time you want coffee is inconvienant, you should bring a small gas cooker. Consider refilling the gas before you leave. To keep clean dishes you will want to bring any necessary cleaning materials.

Your non perishable foods should be tightly sealed and unopened to avoid all spills. Pack any condiments and spices you like, it is often forgotten. It is a good idea to use one container for all of the food so it can be used as a pantry for the trip, and keep all liquids in plastic bags so it doesnt get dry food wet. Buy perishables as you need them, If you decide to bring them, keep it at a minimum and pack them just before you leave.

Toiletries are not provided, pack toilet paper, and consider bringing a few different sizes of bath plugs, incase one isnt provided. You should bring plastic flip flops if there is a communal shower. A small bag or basket can help keep all of your belongings together while heading to the shower.

Unless you are camping in a remote spot, most things can be done without until you can get to the local store to buy them. Planning a well organized trip will help you relax when you arrive so you can enjoy all of the nature and feel very accomplished.

To Camp Or Not To Camp

Going camping can be a lot of fun. More and more people are deciding to go on camping type holidays for several reasons.

A big part of why people are deciding to go camping is because of the low costs. Unfortunately because people don’t have as much money these day going camping means a low cost way to get away for a while without having to break out the piggy bank.

Booking a holiday can be quite stressful. I.e sorting out hotels, plane tickets, luggage etc but with camping you don’t have much planning stress which is another reason people are going camping.

But if you don’t really like the countryside and getting out there in the wild then camping is probably not the best idea for a holiday for you.

A lot of the time going camping means going without a proper wash and no shower. You’ll either have to go to the toilet in the woods which no one likes to do or you’ll have to use a public toilet which as we all know are usually disgusting.

But the thing that most people enjoy about going on camping trips is that you can chill around the camp fire and watch the stars above your head. This would be the highlight of going camping and is something very enjoyable.

One thing that puts most people off camping is the creatures that they’ll encounter. It’s a horrible experience going into your tent at night to find some big bug or spider there waiting for you or to feel something crawling on your feet in the early hours of the morning.

So this bug problem is one reason that will put people off camping.

So as you can see there’s lots of good aspects to going on a camping trip. There’s good points and bad points that you need to consider before you decide.
