Do you like to go camping? A lot of people do, especially those under forty or those with kids. I am not convinced that it is more male orientated than female, but it is a close call. It could be.

When you go camping, there will usually be a lot of preparation done in advance and provisions and equipment will be bought and laid out in readiness for the great trek, whether you drive to the hiking starting point or walk there from your front door. You will have a backpack, of course, food, clothing, a tent, sleeping bags or blankets and every other little thing you need, but will you take a camping chair?

Yes, you could sit on a fallen tree trunk or a log around the camp fire to talk and do your cooking. You could even sit on the soil or on a blanket, but have you ever stopped to think how heavy a canvas and aluminium framed camping chair really is? It weighs a pound or two and can hang off the outside of your rucksack or knapsack.

A camping chair can hugely enhance your camping holiday, whether you are going to a camping site or just wandering in nature, but probably even more so in the latter situation. If it is raining or has recently rained, logs, rocks and the ground will be damp. If there are lots of ants about, you will not want to sit on the ground anyway.

What about bugs and other creepy-crawlies? Or snakes even? The fact is that a camping chair does not take up much space, does not weigh much, but can deliver a lot of comfort.

Of course, the more complex the camping chair, the heavier it will be, but you not have to have much to feel good after a long trek, particularly if the weather was bad. A stool is better than nothing, but I would want something with a back to it; something like a canvas director’s chair the same as you see in movies.

Your camping chair can double as a table, if the weather is fine and you have other places to sit down. If you serve your food on your camping chair you will have fewer problems with ants and other insects. However, the best reason for taking a folding camping chair with you on a camping holiday, is the luxury of being able to take your boots off and lean back in your camping chair with your feet up after you have made camp. It may not be macho, but I like it.

I wear large size shoes, so going to the shoe store is not exactly a picnic. Just finding shoes to fit my feet can be a trial, finding boots gets even more difficult.

Being a person who spends long hours on my feet, whether working or out hiking, I need a boot that is going to provide comfort through the day. But, although I can mostly find a pair or two of large size boots at any store, there isn’t the selection that I like unless I go to the big outlet stores, or buy my shoes on the Internet.

Of course, the Internet is proper out for me. Companies often change the build of their footwear without announcing it to anyone, and there is nothing to do about it but try on each pair of footwear that you buy.

The last pair I ever ordered from online arrived with me thinking that they would be the same as the first pair I ordered, but they didn’t. My feet hadn’t grown and it was suppose d to be the same pair that I had ordered previously.

They turned out to be a completely different boot than what I had ordered the first time. These footwear felt completely different across the top, in the length, and in the width, so they didn’t fit in any direction. I learned my lesson then, I’ll tell you.

All of the boots that I buy now come from an outlet store but it wasn’t always so. One problem about using these outlet stores is that you should have at least an idea of the brand of boot that you want before you go in.

If the selected outlet has no shoes that you like, then you will be out of luck as they only carry the one brand of boot.

Asking others who have large feet where they buy their boots is a decent place to go for information on where to look for large footwear as well.

This advice could prove valuable in saving you from some useless trips to different stores looking and could narrow down some of the choices that you have.
